Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media Secures India Distribution for Cannes-Winner ‘All We Imagine as Light’

Spirit Media, the production house founded by Baahubali star Rana Daggubati, has secured the Indian distribution rights for Payal Kapadia’s Cannes-acclaimed film, All We Imagine as Light. This marks a significant moment for Kapadia, making her narrative directorial debut with a story that’s already creating ripples internationally.

The film follows two women navigating personal challenges in Mumbai — Prabha, a nurse dealing with a troubled past, and Anu, her young roommate searching for a private space to explore her relationship. When the pair venture to a nearby beach town, the trip becomes a turning point for them both, allowing their inner desires and unspoken needs to surface. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon in key roles.

Reflecting on the film’s core theme, Kapadia explains, “This story is about the power of female friendships. In a world where women are often seen as competitors, I wanted to highlight how these bonds can create deeper solidarity, inclusivity, and empathy.”

Kapadia’s work has already garnered attention after winning the prestigious Grand Prix at Cannes, with Variety’s Jessica Kiang praising the film for its “glowing portrayal of sisterhood and urban connection” and calling it “a striking depiction of Mumbai’s nocturnal allure.”

As distribution agreements are already in place across the U.S., France, and other global territories, All We Imagine as Light is set to become one of the most widely released Indian indie films to date. With a fall release slated for the U.S. and global markets, the film is primed to make a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.

Rana Daggubati has made a name for himself not only as an actor but also as a passionate backer of independent cinema through his Spirit Media banner. Previous projects like Bommalata, C/o Kancharapalem, and Charlie777 have further solidified his commitment to championing fresh and unique storytelling.

In collaboration with international production companies — including Petit Chaos from France, Chalk & Cheese Films from India, and BALDR Film from the Netherlands — All We Imagine as Light is a cross-continental effort. The film is also expected to be a strong contender for India’s submission to the Academy Awards in the international feature category.

Daggubati shared his excitement for bringing the film to Indian audiences: “After the incredible reception at festivals abroad, we’re thrilled to introduce All We Imagine as Light to viewers in India. It’s exactly the kind of moving and impactful story we’re committed to sharing.”

With this latest acquisition, Spirit Media continues to solidify its reputation as a powerhouse for distributing compelling, art-driven films that resonate across cultures.
