Dave Bautista Opens Up About Weight Loss Journey After Gaining “Uncomfortably Big” Size for Knock at the Cabin

Dave Bautista is setting the record straight on his recent weight loss, addressing fan concerns over his health. The actor, known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and the recent M. Night Shyamalan film Knock at the Cabin, explained that his noticeable size fluctuations were all part of his preparation for different roles.

In a candid interview with social media personality Chris Van Vliet, which Bautista shared on TikTok, the actor revealed the dramatic weight gain was intentional for Knock at the Cabin. “I had to bulk up fast,” he said, recalling the demanding timeline between projects. “I got really big for the role, probably too big—around 315 pounds—and I put the weight on quickly.”

He achieved that rapid transformation with a diet heavy in pancakes and French fries, which, while effective, left him feeling uncomfortable. According to Bautista, Shyamalan’s direction for the role required him to look imposing, but not like a bodybuilder. “He wanted me to look like a really big guy, not like a powerlifter,” Bautista shared.

Reflecting on the experience, Bautista admitted he may have overdone it. “Looking back, I was probably bigger than I needed to be,” he confessed. “It took me forever to shed it off.”

Since then, Bautista has been working on trimming down, not just for future roles, but also for his own well-being. He shared that the process has been eye-opening: “The more weight I lost, the better I felt—and the better I looked on camera.”

At 6’4” and currently weighing around 240 pounds, Bautista acknowledged that fans have expressed concern over his slimmer appearance. “People see me and say, ‘God, you’re skinny,’” he said, addressing online comments about his health. He noted that while his current weight sounds large by typical standards, it seems small to those who are used to seeing him bulked up for roles. “Next to the average actor, I still look huge. It’s just people are used to seeing me much bigger, like a gorilla—it’s distracting.”

For now, Bautista is focused on shedding a few more pounds and maintaining his fitness, with his routine emphasizing strict calorie control and intense training. “I’m still working on getting where I want to be, but I’m feeling good, and that’s what matters.”

As he continues to balance the physical demands of his career with his health, Bautista remains committed to finding the right balance, showing that even in Hollywood, it’s all about feeling good in your skin.
