Carmelo Anthony Backs Ben Simmons’ Comeback: “We Want You on the Court”

After a turbulent period with the Brooklyn Nets, Ben Simmons is eager to turn the page and make a strong comeback. Limited to just 15 games last season due to a nagging back injury, the Australian star now appears to be making strides in his recovery. Following a back surgery in March, reports indicate that Simmons is back in action, participating in full-court scrimmages well ahead of training camp.

According to Nets Daily, Simmons has been playing 5-on-5 for several weeks, a promising sign considering his struggles last year. “He’s not just cleared for five-on-five; he’s actually been playing it,” a source noted. “Compared to last season, he’s much further along in his recovery.”

This positive outlook has been echoed by renowned basketball trainer Chris Brickley, who’s been working closely with Simmons in New York. Brickley, known for training NBA superstars like LeBron James and Jimmy Butler, believes Simmons is better now than during his All-Star days. “Ben is healthy and moving very well. He’s in a great place physically, better than his All-Star seasons,” Brickley shared on X (formerly Twitter). “I wouldn’t vouch for a player who wasn’t ready. Trust me on this one.”

Carmelo Anthony, who has also worked with Brickley during his own career, is optimistic about Simmons’ return to form. Anthony, who trained with Brickley during his time with the Knicks, expressed his support for the 27-year-old during a recent appearance at Foot Locker QV in Melbourne.

“We need him back out there,” Anthony told The Sporting News. “We don’t want to see him on the sidelines. We want to see him on the court, playing, and doing what he does best. We all know his talent and skillset—it’s time to focus on getting his body right.”

With the final year of his five-year max contract approaching, the upcoming season is crucial for Simmons. A successful comeback could not only restore his standing in the league but also provide the Nets with a much-needed boost. As he works his way back to peak condition, Simmons has the support of the basketball community, including Carmelo Anthony, who’s eager to see him succeed.

“Ben’s got the game and the tools to be great. Now it’s about getting healthy and proving it,” Anthony said. “We’re all rooting for him.”

With so much riding on this season, all eyes will be on Simmons as he looks to silence the doubters and remind everyone why he was once considered one of the league’s brightest stars.
