Emily Blunt’s career skyrocketed when she took on the role of the sarcastic assistant Emily in The Devil Wears Prada, but her daughters have a rather amusing take on her character. According to Blunt, her two young girls think she portrayed “the meanest person they’ve ever met.”
In an interview with Page Six, Blunt, who shares her daughters Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, with husband John Krasinski, expressed their playful criticism with a chuckle.
Despite her daughters’ harsh judgment, Blunt holds a deep appreciation for the film and is continually amazed by its lasting impact on pop culture. “It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people… and it’s quoted to me every week,” she shared.
Reflecting on her time filming the iconic 2006 movie, Blunt fondly recalled the camaraderie among the cast, which included Hollywood heavyweights like Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci. “We had the time of our lives making that film,” she recalled, reminiscing about how it was her first major project. “At the time, I remember my agent calling to tell me about the opening weekend. I was like, ‘Is that good?’ I didn’t even know what ‘good’ meant.”
In exciting news for fans, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is officially in the works nearly two decades after the original’s release. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Blunt will reprise her role as Emily alongside her former co-stars Streep, Hathaway, and Tucci. The original creative team, including screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, producer Wendy Finerman, and director David Frankel, is also returning to bring this new chapter to life.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling novel from 2003, The Devil Wears Prada follows the journey of Andy Sachs (played by Hathaway) as she navigates the challenging world of high fashion under the formidable editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly (Streep). Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, adds another layer of complexity to Andy’s experience, making her transition into this glamorous yet ruthless industry even more daunting.
Weisberger has continued the story through two sequels, with Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns in 2013 and When Life Gives You Lululemons in 2018, the latter focusing on Blunt’s character as she carves out a new path as an image consultant after her time at Runway.
While the exact plot details of the upcoming sequel remain under wraps, Puck News reports that Miranda Priestly will still be leading Runway, with Emily reportedly embarking on a new adventure at a luxury brand conglomerate that collaborates with the magazine on advertising.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the return of this beloved ensemble, ready to see how their stories unfold nearly two decades later.
