Lana Condor and Noah Centineo brought a refreshing energy to the romantic comedy genre with their performances in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a reunion film anytime soon.
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Condor, 27, shared her candid thoughts on collaborating with Centineo again. While promoting her partnership with 3M for their new docuseries, Green Works, she mentioned, “We’ve never really discussed working together on something new. Or maybe we did, but I’m not sure it would be the right fit.”
The actress, known for her role as Lara Jean in the beloved Netflix series, humorously suggested conducting a fan poll to gauge interest in a potential reunion. However, she expressed skepticism, stating, “I just don’t know if it would make sense. I doubt audiences could suspend their disbelief unless we played older versions of our characters.”
Based on Jenny Han’s popular book series, the To All the Boys franchise follows the evolving romance between Lara Jean and Peter (Centineo), navigating love triangles and misunderstandings. By the final film, To All the Boys: Always and Forever, the couple opts for a long-distance relationship as they prepare for different college experiences.
Reflecting on the franchise’s success, Condor emphasized the strong support from fans, saying, “The books had such a devoted following. We had the backing of Jenny Han’s fans, who really turned out for us.” She noted the genuine chemistry between herself and Centineo, attributing their effective collaboration to mutual respect and friendship.
The To All the Boys series is just the beginning of Han’s literary empire, with Anna Cathcart’s character Kitty leading her own spinoff titled XO, Kitty. Additionally, Han’s other series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, found its way to Prime Video in 2022.
When asked about possibly appearing in The Summer I Turned Pretty, Condor said she would be open to it but emphasized that she’d likely reprise her role as Lara Jean. “I don’t think it would make sense for me to play a different character given how interconnected these worlds are,” she explained. “It’s never crossed my mind, but I’ll think about it.”
Condor’s breakout role in the To All the Boys series catapulted her to fame, and she remains busy with exciting upcoming projects like Worth The Wait, Valiant One, and Ballerina Overdrive. She recently hosted the premiere of 3M’s Green Works docuseries at the Fast Company Innovation Festival on September 18.
This global docuseries shines a light on individuals tackling climate challenges and emphasizes the urgent need for more talent in the green transition. Each episode focuses on roles in renewable energy, climate education, and sustainable practices, showcasing the significant impact of green jobs.
“I hope viewers feel inspired and empowered,” Condor expressed. “I often hear people say, ‘But climate conservation is such a massive issue, and I’m just one person. What can I really change?’ This docuseries illustrates that one person can make a profound difference.”
Condor’s commitment to sustainability extends to her daily life as well. “On a micro scale, I try to use reusable and refillable products, like deodorants and lipsticks. Nowadays, many companies offer options where you buy the main product once and then just purchase refill pods,” she shared. “These small actions motivate me to do more. Even the simplest choices can serve as powerful reminders.”
Green Works is now available to watch, showcasing inspiring stories of individuals dedicated to making a difference in the world.
