One Championship, the powerhouse of mixed martial arts, is teaming up with the highly anticipated sports action film “The Beast in Me.” Starring Russell Crowe and Daniel MacPherson (“Land of Bad,” “Foundation”), this collaboration promises to bring a fresh burst of excitement to both the silver screen and the world of combat sports.
In “The Beast in Me,” MacPherson takes on the role of a former MMA fighter grappling with personal loss. After a family tragedy involving his brother, he’s guided by a seasoned trainer, portrayed by Crowe, back into the ring with One Championship. His goal: to seek justice and redemption through a high-stakes comeback.
The film, produced by Broken Open Pictures, will be helmed by Tyler Atkins, known for his work on “Ocean Boy.” Solution Entertainment Group is handling international rights for the film. Filming is scheduled to kick off later this year, continuing into early 2025. Key scenes are set to be shot at Bangkok’s Impact Arena, which will feature prominently in a pivotal sequence during One Championship’s Friday Fights event on January 24. Additional footage will be captured throughout One’s fight week, adding authenticity and intensity to the film.
Crowe, who co-wrote the script with David Frigero, is also taking on a production role alongside Tim O’Hair and John Schwarz. Shane Abbess and Brett Thornquest will serve as executive producers.
Frigero expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “With One Championship’s extensive network of athletes and events at our disposal, we are set to create a film that truly captures the essence of martial arts.”
Chatri Sityodtong, Founder and CEO of One Championship, added, “I’m excited to collaborate with such a talented cast and production team. One Championship is the ideal platform to bring their story of resilience and determination to life. We look forward to hosting the entire team in Bangkok for a memorable fight week in January.”
Founded in 2011 and originally based in Singapore, One Championship has become a leading force in MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing, broadcasting globally via its apps, YouTube, and international networks like Prime Video and beIN Sports. During the pandemic, the franchise also expanded into reality TV with “The Apprentice: One Championship Edition,” showcasing its versatility and reach.
Russell Crowe, who visited Thailand for the first time in late 2021 for “The Greatest Beer Run Ever,” enthusiastically embraced the local culture. He made headlines by engaging in various activities, from interviewing mayoral candidates to exploring Bangkok’s culinary scene and sharing his adventures on social media.
